After three years of planning and construction, the San Zhi International Mountain and Sea Art Center officially opened its doors on February 26, 2024. The center is located in the former Yangzhu Elementary School branch campus, which had been abandoned for many years. The San Zhi District Office worked with a local art team to transform the space into a vibrant hub for artistic creation and cultural exchange.
The opening ceremony featured a performance by internationally renowned artist Mei Hsin-yi. Through her captivating dance, Mei captured the essence of San Zhi's artistic spirit and the energy of the new center.
San Zhi District Chief Lai Xiao-ping said that the development of agriculture and arts and culture are two of the main pillars of San Zhi's economic and social development strategy. The San Zhi International Mountain and Sea Art Center will serve as a creative base for artists from all over the world. In addition to providing space for artistic creation, the center will also offer educational programs and experiential tours for the public. This will help to promote cultural equality and community development in San Zhi.
City Councilor Zheng Yu-en also spoke at the ceremony. He expressed his appreciation for the efforts of all parties involved in the project, which transformed a dilapidated building into a thriving center for the arts. He expressed hope that the center will play a key role in promoting cultural exchange and connectivity along the North Coast, and that San Zhi will eventually become a renowned art destination like the Seto Inland Sea in Japan.
The opening exhibition at the center features a variety of works created by artists and community members. The center also houses artist studios that are open to the public. The San Zhi District Office hopes that the center will serve as a platform for creative collaboration and innovation, and that it will bring new vitality to the community. The office also plans to continue investing in local infrastructure and public art projects, with the goal of creating a sustainable and vibrant arts scene in San Zhi and the North Coast region.
